Caravan torch relay «Flame of Peace» went from Minsk to Rome

The caravan of the “Flame of Peace” relay set off from Minsk to Rome today, where the fire of the II European Games will be lit on May 3, the press service of the Games Directorate told BelTA.

The members of the biker club The One Chapter Belarus, who will accompany the fire of the upcoming multisport forum in Europe, set off from the capital’s Memorial Church in honor of All Saints.

«The total distance to be overcome is about 7,700 km. We set off on the road with an understanding of responsibility and pride for our country. I am sure that the equipment will not lead and the Flame of the world will be delivered at the appointed time. The flags and flags are placed on all motorcycles of the column Caravan relay race. When participating in the torch relay, each of us fully feels part of a global sporting event and a sports festival, ”said the head of the biker club, Yevgeny Beyzak. He noted that preparations for the run began about a year ago, and the development of the route took six months.

Bikers will return to the border of Belarus together with the Flame of Peace on May 11, having made their way through Europe. The fire of the European Games will visit 55 locations in eight countries — Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Belarus.

The fire of the II European Games will be lit on May 3 in the capital of Italy, Rome, where the headquarters of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) is located. On this day, a solemn ceremony will be held, the venue of which will be the Ara Pacis Museum, where the Arch of Peace is located — a monument of architecture, which is more than two thousand years old. The symbol of the action, the olive tree, will be presented, as well as the first torch of the torch relay of the II European Games. Olive tree is made specifically for EOK. It extends its roots into the depths of time and raises branches to take athletes of 50 nations. It is symbolic that the duration of the torch relay will be 50 days, and its route will end with the solemn lighting of the Olympic flame bowl in the central arena of the 2nd European Games of 2019 — the National Olympic Stadium Dynamo.

The first days after ignition the flame will be in Italy. He will be taken to the town of Courmayer (Valle d’Aosta region) on the border with France. Here is the highest point of Europe — Mount Mont Blanc. The flames and the flag of the II European Games, as well as the national flag of Belarus, will be raised to this peak by the Belarusian climbers.
